Downpressor

Downpressor ist eine Wortschöpfung die mit maximaler Wahrscheinlichkeit ihren Ursprung auf Jamaica hat. Sie bedeutet übersetzt Unterdrücker oder Tyrann. Das korrekte englische Wort dafür ist Oppressor. Da sich die erste Silbe von Oppressor wie „up“ spricht und alles was  „up“ enthält eher positive Assoziationen weckt, der Oppressor hingegen absolut negativ konnotiert ist, wurde aus dem „Uppressor (sic!)“ der Downpressor. Dieser Begriff findet sehr häufig bei Reggae-Lyrics Verwendung. So auch beim folgenden Song von Peter Tosh, ein Video von einem Live-Auftritt, wo genauer gesagt zwei Stücke performt werden. Der Text passt perfekt zur aktuellen politischen Situation in Tunesien und Ägypten.
